LA GRANDE — Several Eastern Oregon University runners are set to compete at the national stage.

The NAIA released its selections for the national cross-country championships, including for Eastern, the entire men’s team and women’s team runner Michelle Herbes. The Mountaineers will compete at the NAIA Championships beginning at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 19 in Vancouver, Washington.

The men’s team received an at-large bid after placing fifth at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships on Nov. 5. Senior Travis Running led the way with a fourth-place finish overall after clocking in at 25:26 in the men’s 8K.

Junior Hunter Nichols, freshman Justin Ash and freshman Cristian Mendoza finished 24th, 25th and 26th.

On the women’s side, Herbes will compete as an individual to conclude her collegiate career. She finished 14th overall with a time of 20:01.3 in the women’s 5K.

This is the fourth year in a row that Herbes has been eligible to compete at the NAIA Championships.
