CALDWELL, Id. — If the Cascade Collegiate Conference schools do resume their sports seasons in April, one of Eastern Oregon University's rivals won't be on the slate.

Interstate 84 rival College of Idaho announced late Friday it is canceling its spring practice and contest schedule for the remainder of the season in a move "made in consultation with C of I's executive council and Board of Trustees in an effort to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus and in the interest of the health and safety of our student-athletes, campus personnel, working and event personnel, and all those who attend College of Idaho events," the press release states.

The Yotes and Mountaineers were set to play on the softball field four times this season — twice in Caldwell and twice in La Grande — but two of the games were already canceled as they fell within the moratorium put in place by the CCC Thursday when it stated it was canceling all athletic events until March 29. EOU and C of I were also set to meet on the track at three meets this spring, including the CCC championships in early May in La Grande.
