Brandon Porter led the Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team with 17 points Friday as the Mountaineers claimed their third win in a row, downing Northwest at home in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, 73-63.

EOU led nearly the entire night, taking the lead for good less than six minutes into the contest after some back-and-forth action early and going ahead by as much as 14 points late in the first half at 37-23 on a 3-pointer by Max McCullough that capped a 19-7 run. EOU went into the break up 37-25.

Northwest twice got within five in the second half, but a field goal by Landon Jones and a 3 by Porter pushed the lead back to 50-40 to stave off the first rally, and two Andreas Brown free throws and a basket by McCullough put Eastern ahead 63-54 with just 2:18 to play. The Eagles got no closer than seven the rest of the way.

Jones finished with 14 points and nine rebounds for EOU, and McCullough added 10 points.

Hussayn Ford had 22 points to lead the Eagles.

EOU (14-12 overall, 8-9 CCC) hosts Evergreen State College Saturday.
