The Elgin Huskies had three third-place finishers Friday and Saturday as they took seventh place at the Orofino Maniac Invitational in Orofino, Idaho.
Gabriel Hasbell (113 pounds), Joe Lathrop (132) and Ty Hammond (160) all took third to lead the Huskies, who finished with 81 points as a team. Lathrop and Hammond both had records of 4-1 on the day. Lathrop finished with a 14-11 decision over Tanner Lange of Clarkston, Washington, in the 132 third-place match, and Hammond pinned Orofino’s Danny Fowler in the 160 third-place match.
Hasbell went 1-1, pinning Jaegar Dahl of McCall, Idaho, in the 113 third-place match.
Austin Greenlee (152) and Reece McConnell (145) each went 3-2 to take fourth for the Huskies, and Kenny Terry (126) and Clayton Hammond (170) added fifth-place finishes.
Enterprise finished in ninth with a score of 33 points, the majority of which came from Trace Evans, who won all three of his matches to take the title at 138 pounds, including a win by fall over Sam Martin of St. Maries, Idaho, in the 138 title match.
Drew Widener (285) added a fifth-place finish for the Outlaws.
The teams took part in pods Friday in Orofino. Elgin picked up first-place finishes from three wrestlers in their pods — Lathrop (132C), McConnell (145C) and Clayton Hammond (170C), while Enterprise had a pod title from Evans (138C).
Imbler takes third at Cougar Challenge
Garrett Burns, Kaden Lee and MyKail Foster all took individual titles Saturday as the Imbler Panthers took third at the Cougar Challenge in Echo despite taking just four wrestlers.
Burns went 4-0 at 120/126 in a round robin-style format and won all his matches by fall, including pinning Heppner/Ione’s Brian Collins in his final match.
Lee went 3-0 at 138/145 with three pins and dropped Grant Union’s Riddick Hutchison in his final match in a round-robin format.
Foster, who also went 3-0 in the 152 bracket, eked out a close 6-5 decision over Grant Union’s Frank Douglass in the championship.
Kadyn Trick went 2-2 to finish third at 126 for Imbler, winning his final match by fall over Baker’s Ryan Brown.
Imbler scored 67 points, one more than Joseph/Wallowa, which finished fourth.
Zeb Ramsden (145) and Jonah Staigle (220) won titles for the Eagles. Ramsden pinned all three opponents and took down Echo/Stanfield’s Isaiah Lemmon in the final. Staigle also won all his matches by fall, winning in the final bout of his round-robin format weight class by fall over Irrigon’s Bradley Dawson.
Ronny Morello took second at 170 with a 1-1 record, pinning Baker’s Jayden Clark in the semifinals and losing by fall to Heppner/Ione’s Conor Brosnan in the final.
Kennison Knifong went 3-1 to take third at 145, pinning Cade Lind of Baker in the third-place match.
Harley Miller (160) took sixth.
