Kaleb Myer, shown in a game earlier this season, scored 14 points in La Grande's playoff loss Friday at Marist.

EUGENE — The La Grande boys basketball team hung around Friday against top-ranked Marist, but came up short of an upset bid as the Tigers fell to the Spartans in the first round of the state playoffs, 52-33, to see their season end.

Kaleb Myer scored 14 points to lead La Grande. Justin Jenner added seven, but no other Tiger scored more than four.

Myer had three first-quarter free throws which accounted for all La Grande's points as it fell behind 12-3 after one, but six different players scored in the second for the Tigers as they stayed within striking range, trailing just 21-16 at the half.

Myer and Jenner accounted for 10 of the Tigers' 11 points in the third, with Myer canning two 3-pointers, but Marist extended its lead to 37-27, then put the game away in the fourth.

JJ Anderson had 18 points, including 14 in the second half, for the Spartans, and Ben Morehouse scored 11.

The Tigers finish their season with a record of 10-13.
