La Grande’s Grace Perry moves the ball upfield as North Valley’s Zoe Guthrie defends during the 4A playoff game between the Tigers and Knights Saturday.

The La Grande girls soccer team fell just short of a return trip to the Class 4A state semifinals, dropping their quarterfinal contest on the road against North Valley Saturday, 3-2.

“The girls played their hearts out,” La Grande coach Sam Brown said in an interview with the Grants Pass Daily Courier. “We can walk away from this game unashamed. We outplayed and outshot them, but couldn’t find a way to outscore them.”

Audrey Garlitz had a goal and an assist for the Tigers, but La Grande was never able to pull ahead. They briefly tied the score at 1-1 on Garlitz’s goal, and pulled within 3-2 when Garlitz connected with Cecelia Aguilera for a goal in the second half, according to the Daily Courier article, but got no closer.

The loss brings an end to the Tigers’ season with a final record of 12-3 overall.

The La Grande boys soccer team lost on the road to Marist in the Class 4A state quarterfinals Saturday, 2-0.

The Tigers finish the season with a final record of 9-5-1. Stats were not provided.
