UNION – The Bobcats continued an impressive start to the season under head coach Karly Knapp, improving to 8-4 on the season.
Union won a five-set thriller on Wednesday, Sept. 8, marking six wins in the last seven contests. The loss knocks Joseph down to 4-3 on the year.
Joseph took the early advantage, winning a close first set 25-21. Union bounced back, taking the next two sets 25-15 and 27-25. Joseph won handily in the fourth set, taking a 25-15 advantage into the fifth set tiebreaker.
With momentum on the side of Joseph, Union held its own with the game on the line. The Bobcats extended a 15-8 lead to take the final set and win the match.
Union has performed well in non-league action, building a winning record early on. Up next, the Bobcats head to the St. Paul Tournament at St. Paul High School on Sept. 11.
Joseph will look to rebound in their next matchup, a league competition at home against Cove on Sept 9.
La Grande remains perfect
LA GRANDE — The Tigers have won all six of their sets so far this year, improving to 2-0 on the season with a 3-0 victory over The Dalles.
The Riverhawks kept it close early, as the Tigers won the first set 25-21. La Grande won another tight set 25-19 and then ran away with the final frame 25-12.
La Grande has won both its games 3-0 through two non-league matchups. Up next, the Tigers will face Fruitland High School at home on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.
